Highway 69 has reopened following an early morning accident

A collision scene has been cleared, and highway 69 (The southbound lanes) are open following an early morning collision. It happened at the highway 637 (Killarney highway turnoff). The notice was first posted at 2:45 a.m. No further information is currently available.
 

Sudbury Arts Council has names Andrew Boyd their new president

The Sudbury Arts Council has announced a new president. Andrew Boyd. After seven years as president of the Sudbury Arts Council, Linda Cartier is stepping down. Cartier made the announcement at the arts council’s annual general meeting on Nov. 22. The meeting was held at the Sudbury Indie Cinema.
 

Greater Sudbury and North Bay getting $400k each from the Province

Greater Sudbury and North Bay are among Northern municipalities getting cash from the Province. $400k a piece as their share of the new Northern Ontario Resource Development Support (NORDS) fund. Good for this year and next, the infrastructure project funding stream shares the benefits of mining and forestry with municipalities and complements other funding. Over the next five years, $15 million will be distributed annually to municipalities.
 

New Co/Smoke Detectors handed out

North Bay Fire and Emergency Services received have given out nearly 150 (144) combination alarms through Safe Community Project Zero. The smoke/C0 alarms are part of a public education campaign is providing over 16,600 alarms to residents in 70 municipalities across Ontario.
 

Daniel Foy names new Timmins Police Chief

Timmins Police have a new chief. Daniel Foy has been named to the seat, as Timmins Police Chief John Gauthier has announced his retirement. Foy is currently the James Bay OPP detachment commander. Before that, he was the South Porcupine OPP detachment commander. He started with the OPP in Chapleau in 1995. Gauthier’s last day is Feb. 28, 2022.
 

Algoma Public Health announcing a COVID-19 exposure warning

Algoma Public Health is reporting a potential low-risk exposure to COVID-19 in Sault Ste. Marie. It is for an establishment the potential exposure is for an entablement in the 0-70 block of Dennis St. on Nov. 22 between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. Anyone who was present at the time is advised to self-monitor for COVID symptoms.
 

NBMCA CAO, Brian Tayler calling it a career

The North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority’s CAO is calling it a career. CAO Brian Tayler will be retiring in June of next year. His career in conservation spanned 40 years with various Conservation Authority’s and four years with the former Ministry of Natural Resources.
