Sudbury Health Unit puts out a call for assistance

The Sudbury health unit has issued a call for help. With an increase in demand for vaccines to children along with the pressures of managing the rising COVID-19 caseload, routine public health services are temporarily being suspended. This includes routine vaccination services said PHSD (Hepatitis B, Human papillomavirus (HPV), and Shingles). They’re asking family practitioners and walk-in clinics to lend a hand.
 

1 Covid-19 Death reported by PHSD, APH

Public Health Sudbury and Districts are reporting one new COVID-19 death. It is in the local jurisdiction for Nov. 30. Meanwhile, there was also one death reported by Algoma Public Health. Due to privacy, no further information is being released.
 

Sudbury Wolves suspend all activities – 12 players test positive for COVID-19

The Sudbury Wolves have suspended all team activities. This is after 12 players tested positive for COVID-19. Currently, all players affected are either asymptomatic or exhibiting mild symptoms. The OHL says both they and the club will continue to monitor their well-being. Specific COVID-19 protocols including mandatory vaccination for all members of the OHL community including players, staff, officials and billets are already in place.
 

North Bay Police investigate firearms, ammunition theft

North Bay Police are investigating the theft of multiple firearms and ammunition. It happened November 22 in the 600-block of Lakeshore Drive. It is believed that the alleged Break and Enter and Theft occurred between 9:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. There is no word of any injuries nor a threat to public safety. Anyone with information should contact the police.
 

Potential High-Risk COVID-19 exposure on Air Canada Flight

A potential high-risk COVID-19 exposure advisory has been issued by the Porcupine Health Unit. It was for a Timmins flight, Thursday, Nov. 25 at 8:55 a.m. Those on Air Canada flight AC8427 flight from Toronto in rows 10 to 14 should monitor for symptoms.
 

Kirkland Lake OPP respond to a two-vehicle collision

Kirkland Lake OPP has laid charges in a two-vehicle collision on Government Road West. It happened in the Town of Kirkland Lake. While there were no reported injures, the driver is accused of failing to stop at a red light, which may have led to the crash. Police are warning of the dangers of driving impaired.
 

User fees in Sault Ste Marie going up January 1st

User fees for facilities and services provided by the city of Sault Ste Marie will see an increase in the new year. Effective Jan. 1, fees for facility rentals, marriage licences, marina fees, ice, pool and field rentals are all going up. The majority of the list will see departments apply a two percent inflationary increase. In most cases, the increase amounts to between 5 cents to a few dollars, at most.
 

Sudbury Parking ban goes into place, today

The city of Greater Sudbury says their overnight parking bylaw is now in effect. It lasts until March 31, of next year. “During this time, parking is not permitted on any roadway, highway, laneway or side street within the city, between midnight and 7 a.m. due to snow removal services. Those who do not abide by the by-law can be ticketed or towed.
 

North Bay city council asking Province for Health Unit funding

North Bay city council is advocating for an increase in funding for the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit. Their last increase was in 2018 and council has passed a motion to request the province extend COVID-19 funding into 2022 and increase base funding for public health.
 

Water main break starts a boil water advisory

Water service in Elliot Lake lake tipped into a boil water advisory yesterday. It happened between 143 and 197 (Timmins Road and Dunn Avenue) on Mississauga Avenue. It was all due to a water main break that needed repairing. Anyone with water issues should contact the city.
