After more than five years of planning and over one year of construction, the North Bay and District Humane Society and Pet Valu have officially opened its Companions for Change Pet Adoption and Wellness Centre.

The Archie Dillon Sportsplex is closed for its annual cleaning, until Sept. 5.

Sault Ste Marie City Council is expected to receive a report on the progress of the downtime plaza at its Aug. 28 council meeting.

The city of Greater Sudbury is currently working to qualify and bring aboard the latest batch of 76 initial volunteer firefighter prospects.

The Main Street rehabilitation project in North Bay is moving into the next block. It will now be between Wyld and Ferguson streets. Once the switch is made, the existing interlocking brick and curb will be removed.

The Province of Ontario just purchased three new trainsets for Northlander. It will run North to South making a number of key stops along the highway 11 corridor.

The Canadian Space Agency and the stratospheric balloons initiative in the Timmins area has unveiled their new multi-million-dollar facility. The new $5 million facility will boost the capacity of the Canadian and French space agencies to facilitate balloon launches for scientists across the globe.

A few big bangs in Greater Sudbury that alarmed residents, have been identified as fireworks. They happed in the Garson area over the weekend.

North Bay is one of 50 Ontario communities that have been assigned housing targets from the province. It’s part of the government’s plan to build at least 1.5 million homes by 2031. North Bay’s portion will be 1,000.

In Timmins, the parking lot on the east side of Cedar St., just south of Algonquin Blvd. has had its pavement removed and been levelled off. City Hall says it will be repaved and new lines painted on it this week.

Sault Police is looking for a wallet gone missing and presumed stolen. It left from a truck at a gas station on Trunk Road.
