While individual recreationalists will make their own decisions, several ice fishing operators in the Nipissing area are ending their ice fishing season this week. The increased number of pressure cracks combined with 7C temperatures this weekend will make it hard to get ice huts off area waterways.

From heavy rain to extreme cold, Environment Canada issued weather alerts for all 10 provinces and two territories on Wednesday. Much of Ontario and Quebec are under flash freeze warnings with temperatures expected to drop dramatically below freezing leading to icy travel conditions on roads and walkways.

Meanwhile, a large section of Highway 11 is closed due to the weather conditions. The closure is directly between Kapuskasking at Clear Lake Road and Highway 631, just past Hearst and connects Highway 11 to White River.

Vale Base Metals in Greater Sudbury is taking a look at reducing the use of traditional fossil fuels in Sudbury, specifically in the case of diesel rail locomotives used at the Copper Cliff smelter.

The Rainbow school board had ratified a deal with secondary teachers. The new deal is in effect until Aug. 31, 2026.
